| Amway Global #1 in Online Health & Beauty Sales for Seventh Consecutive Year Amway Global Independent Business Owners (IBOs) have once again propelled the company to the top spot in online Health & Beauty (H&B) sales. According to Internet Retailer's annual Top 500 Guide to the web, Amway Global is ranked first in the Health & Beauty category for the seventh consecutive year, and 27th in overall web sales. According to Internet Retailer estimates, Amway Global's online sales were more than $885 million in 2009. "We are extremely proud to be number one in online health and beauty sales for seven straight years," says Steve Lieberman, Amway Global's Managing Director. "Our leadership in this category is largely due to the high quality and appeal of our major health and beauty brands, NUTRILITE® supplements and ARTISTRY® skin care and cosmetics. The real credit, however, belongs to the dedicated Independent Business Owners who drive our sales." Internet Retailer's definitive ranking and analysis of America's 500 largest e-retailers is based on annual 2009 internet sales, researched by Internet Retailer and confirmed by retailers. This report includes company financial, operational, and performance data, as well as vendors in key categories. The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act Amway Government Affairs is providing business-building support on this issue. Amway Government Affairs is well aware of The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 (H.R. 4173). As always, we are working closely with regulatory, trade, and business associations on legislative and regulatory issues that may impact our business and our product brands. We are also working in concert with the Direct Selling Association and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) – the trade association for the dietary supplement industry – which have responded to H.R. 4173 on the industry's behalf as follows in a letter to Senate leaders Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.: "As the Senate continues to debate overhauling our financial regulatory system, the undersigned trade associations and business groups representing hundreds of thousands of U.S. companies from a wide array of industry segments, write to express our strong opposition to the inclusion of provisions that would significantly expand the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) rulemaking and enforcement authority over virtually every sector of the American economy. The proposed expansion of FTC authority envisioned in HR 4173 would reverse the considered decisions of two earlier Congresses, granting such sweeping powers that the Commission could essentially act as an unelected legislature, governing industries and sectors that had nothing to do with the financial crisis," the letter noted. The letter specifically requests that the expansion of FTC's authority occur only in FTC reauthorization and not in the Senate's financial regulatory reform legislation. Such government relations activities are part of the business-building support Amway Global is proud to provide Independent Business Owners (IBOs). We encourage IBOs to focus on building their businesses while the company devotes time and resources to addressing these issues. |
